An energy‐frequency parameter for earthquake ground motion intensity measure

A novel scalar ground motion intensity measure (IM), termed the energy-frequency parameter, is proposed based on Hilbert-Huang transform. To validate effectiveness of IM, correlation analysis between engineering demand parameter (EDP) and performed using 1992 recorded motions, in which EDP maximum inter-storey drift structures obtained by nonlinear time-history analysis. Results show that has a strong linear with at natural logarithm, this applicable for various structural fundamental periods. We also verified lognormal cumulative distribution function can characterize parameter-based fragility function, further facilitate application seismic risk Besides, other IMs (such as PGA, PGV, PGD, CAV, I $I_{a}$ , v r m s $v_{rms}$ SI) potentially makes IM widely Moreover, since depends only frequency-domain characteristics ground-motion signal, it may closely link to seismological theory provide new insights into seismology engineering.
